Bangladeshi Universities Invited to Pilot Climate Reporting Course

Application Deadline: 16 April 2026

The Communication and Journalism Educators’ Network (CJEN) Bangladesh and the Fojo Media Institute have launched an open call inviting journalism, media, and communication departments in Bangladesh to participate in a pilot initiative aimed at strengthening climate journalism education.

Under the initiative, titled “Closing the Climate Coverage Gap,” three Bangladeshi universities will be selected to co-design and implement an extracurricular course that will equip journalism students with skills to report more effectively on climate-related issues. The project is part of the AGILE Journalism Education Initiative, which seeks to strengthen journalism education worldwide. Through AGILE, Fojo Media Institute is supporting journalism education initiatives in 13 countries, including Bangladesh.

The pilot project will explore how journalism education can better prepare students to explain complex climate issues and communicate them in ways that engage audiences and address the growing challenge of news fatigue around environmental reporting. Participating universities will collaborate in developing the course during two co-design meetings scheduled for May–June 2026. The course will then be delivered locally between July and September 2026, either as a standalone extracurricular program or integrated into an existing course.

In addition to the training component, the initiative will include a Climate Publishing Project in which selected students will produce climate-related stories for publication under the guidance of mentors.  Each participating university will receive USD 3,800 to support course implementation, student stipends, and mentor fees. Fojo Media Institute will also facilitate the course design process and provide guest lecturers and learning opportunities.

Media, communication, and journalism departments at accredited Bangladeshi universities with experience in curriculum development and the capacity to manage small grants are encouraged to apply. Applications must include a faculty CV and an endorsement letter from a department head, dean, registrar, pro vice chancellor, or vice chancellor.

📅 The application deadline is 16 April 2026.
