CJEN Holds Regional Cluster Meeting at AIUB to Strengthen Journalism Research

The Communication and Journalism Educators’ Network (CJEN) Bangladesh held a Regional Cluster Meeting on 8 October 2026 at the Media Studio of the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), bringing together representatives from 11 universities to enhance research capacity and promote knowledge-sharing in journalism education. Organized by AIUB’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) in collaboration with DW Akademie, the event was formally inaugurated by Md. Abdur Rahman, Pro Vice Chancellor of AIUB, who delivered the opening remarks.

The meeting was attended by representatives from AIUB, North South University, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), State University of Bangladesh, Green University of Bangladesh, Jagannath University, Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), University of Development Alternative (UODA), and Stamford University Bangladesh.

The programme introduced participants to CJEN’s mission, initiatives, activities, and membership opportunities, highlighting ways for journalism educators and researchers to engage with the network and contribute to its activities.  A key component of the meeting was academic research capacity-building. One session focused on the craft of writing academic abstracts, helping participants strengthen their ability to communicate research ideas clearly and effectively. Another explored the process of identifying a research problem and analysing data in qualitative research, covering essential stages of qualitative inquiry.

The sessions provided opportunities for participants to exchange ideas and reflect on ways to strengthen research practices in journalism and communication education.  The programme concluded with participants sharing their reflections, followed by certificate distribution and closing remarks.  The meeting forms part of CJEN Bangladesh’s ongoing efforts to strengthen journalism education and research nationwide. By engaging faculty members and researchers from public and private universities, the network seeks to build a more connected academic community and encourage sustained knowledge-sharing and research engagement across institutions.
