CJEN Holds Preparatory Meeting for 11th Annual Conference Business Session

The Communication and Journalism Education Network (CJEN) Bangladesh held an online preparatory meeting to initiate discussions and coordinate preparations for the Business Session of its 11th Annual Conference, scheduled for 27–28 November 2026 at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB).

The meeting focused on developing one-year operational plans for CJEN’s various Working Groups and Committees for the period January–December 2027. Each group was tasked with identifying three to five priority activities that it intends to accomplish during the year, using a prescribed operational plan template.

Representatives from the different Working Groups presented their initial plans and shared their proposed priorities. The presentations included Membership Committee Chair Sarwar Kamal (BGC Trust University); Resource Materials Working Committee Chair Nasrin Akter (American International University-Bangladesh); Communication Working Group Chair Tania Sultana (Stamford University); Research and Publications Working Group Chair Samiya Asadi (Stamford University); Training and Capacity Building Working Group representative Md Shazzad Hossain (University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh); and Networking and Partnership Building Working Group Co-Chair Sarwar Kamal (BGC Trust University).

Jimi Amir, representing Deutsche Welle Akademie, also shared her observations and provided feedback on the proposed one-year operational plans. Her remarks contributed to the discussion on developing focused, realistic, and achievable activities that would strengthen the network’s programmes and institutional capacity.

As a follow-up to the meeting, each Working Group will consult with its members to refine its priorities and complete an initial draft of its operational plan. Following the incorporation of the feedback, the finalized plans will be presented during the Business Session of the 11th CJEN Annual Conference.

The planning exercise is intended to provide greater direction and coordination to CJEN’s activities in 2027, while encouraging each Working Group to take ownership of its responsibilities and contribute meaningfully to the network’s strategic priorities.

The 11th CJEN Annual Conference, themed “Media Education in Transition: Navigating AI, Disinformation, and the Future of Journalism in Bangladesh,” will bring together journalism and media educators, researchers, practitioners, and other stakeholders on 27–28 November 2026 at Independent University, Bangladesh.
