The second part of the AGILE: Investigative Reporting for Female Students Workshop brought together journalism educators and media professionals in Dhaka on 14–15 August to strengthen the teaching and practice of investigative journalism among female students. Organized with the participation of the Fojo Media Institute, Rokeya Collective and Communication and Journalism Educators’ Network (CJEN), the two-day workshop was held in Purbachal. The workshop built on the reflections and outputs of the first co-design workshop, with a particular focus on transforming investigative journalism concepts into practical university courses, lesson plans and student projects.
Four participants from State University of Bangladesh, Comilla University and Daffodil International University presented proposed course outlines for implementation at their respective universities. The presentations covered course rationale and learning objectives, session structures, assessment methods, resource materials and ways of making the courses responsive to each university’s distinctive context. The proposals were reviewed by the workshop panel, which provided questions and feedback. The workshop’s second day shifted from course design to lesson planning and teaching pedagogies. Participants presented lesson plans for two sessions from their proposed courses, outlining learning objectives, teaching activities, facilitation strategies, assessment approaches, student engagement and well-being, and resource materials. Each presentation was followed by panel feedback.
The programme also connected the participants with international expertise. An online session with Dr. Lulu Brenda Harris of the Center for Innovation and Technology (CITE), Zimbabwe, focused on project pitching and mentoring in investigative reporting. The workshop was facilitated by Prof. Jude William Genilo of CJEN, Ms. Jesmin Papri of the Rokeya Collective, and Jesmin Moli, Senior Reporter at bdnews24.com, with a special resource session by Parvez Reza, Head of Input and Planning Editor at Channel One.
By combining curriculum development, newsroom experience, practical lesson planning and international mentoring, the second AGILE workshop provided participants with a concrete pathway for bringing investigative journalism into university classrooms and supporting students in developing their own investigative reporting projects.
