The Communication and Journalism Educators’ Network Bangladesh (CJEN Bangladesh) has initiated discussions with the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) on 11 June 2026 to explore potential areas of collaboration aimed at strengthening journalism education and professional practice in Bangladesh. During a recent visit to PIB, representatives of CJEN Bangladesh met with faculty members and senior officials of the institute to learn more about its academic and professional development initiatives. Established in 1976, PIB is an autonomous national institution dedicated to journalism training, media research, and capacity building for journalists and media professionals across the country.
The visit provided an opportunity to explore PIB’s academic programs, including its master’s and diploma offerings, as well as short-term professional courses in journalism. The delegation also visited the institute’s fact-checking center and library, which houses a rich collection of media and journalism archives dating back to 1984.
Discussions focused on potential avenues for cooperation between the two organizations, including faculty and professional development, research collaboration, curriculum enhancement, media literacy initiatives, and activities that bridge journalism education and industry practice. Both organizations emphasized their shared commitment to advancing the quality of journalism education and supporting a robust and ethical media ecosystem in Bangladesh. The delegation was received by Faruk Wasif, Director General of PIB, who also introduced participants to a prominent mural depicting significant milestones in Bangladesh’s history, including the Bengali Language Movement, the Bangladesh Liberation War, and the July Uprising.
CJEN Bangladesh also expressed its appreciation to Shormin Monira and her colleagues for facilitating the visit and showcasing the institute’s facilities and programs. The meeting marks the beginning of what both organizations hope will be a productive partnership that contributes to the development of journalism education, research, and professional excellence in Bangladesh.
