CJEN Advances Working Group and 11th CJEN Conference Plans

The Communication and Journalism Educators’ Network (CJEN) Executive Committee convened online on 24 July 2026 to discuss the establishment of its Working Groups, preparations for the 11th CJEN Conference, and plans to strengthen the organization’s programmes and long-term sustainability.

During the meeting, the Executive Committee reviewed the composition of six Working Groups: Membership; Communication; Policy, Research and Publications; Training and Capacity Building; Resource Materials Development; and Networking and Partnership Building. Volunteers for each group were presented, reflecting broad representation from journalism and communication educators across Bangladesh.

The meeting also outlined the process for appointing the Chair and Co-chair of each Working Group. Committee members discussed the leadership roles and responsibilities associated with these positions. A timeline was agreed upon for the nomination and selection process, with members who did not wish to be considered for leadership positions requested to notify the Executive Chair before the end of July. Voting for the Chair and Co-chair positions was scheduled to take place in early August.

Looking ahead, the Committee agreed that each Working Group would prepare a one-year operational plan covering the period from September 2026 to August 2027. These plans would align with the CJEN Strategic Development Plan and would be presented during the 11th CJEN Conference after review and approval. Members also discussed the possibility of Working Groups recommending new policies and standards to further strengthen the organization.  The Executive Committee likewise discussed the proposed Financial Sustainability Working Group, which would focus on identifying long-term revenue streams through membership, conferences, webinars, sponsorships, grants, and fundraising initiatives.

The meeting concluded with updates on the 11th CJEN Conference, which would be hosted by the Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) on 27–28 November 2026. The conference would serve as a platform for presenting the Working Groups’ annual plans and advancing collaboration among journalism and communication educators throughout Bangladesh.
