BGC Trust University Bangladesh hosted the CJEN Regional Cluster Meeting 2026 (Chattogram) on Monday, bringing together journalism and communication educators and students from universities across the Southeastern Region to strengthen academic networks and promote collaboration in journalism education and research.

Organized by the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at BGC Trust University Bangladesh in partnership with the Communication and Journalism Educators’ Network (CJEN) and DW Akademie, with support from German Cooperation, the day-long meeting featured research mentoring, an abstract development workshop, and networking activities. Faculty members and students from the University of Chittagong, Comilla University, Port City International University, and BGC Trust University Bangladesh participated in the meeting, held at the BGC Trust University Bangladesh campus in Chandanaish.

The opening session was chaired by Yeasr Silmy, Chairman of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at BGC Trust University Bangladesh. Prof. Dr. Jude William R. Genilo, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh and Chair of CJEN, attended as Guest of Honor. The academic programme began with a Research Mentoring Session facilitated by Prof. Dr. Genilo and moderated by Yeasr Silmy. Participants discussed their research interests and received guidance on developing their research ideas.

In the afternoon, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Morshedul Islam of the University of Chittagong led an Abstract Development Workshop, providing practical guidance on developing clear and effective academic research abstracts and proposals. A dedicated CJEN Campaign, led by Prof. Dr. Genilo together with DW Akademie representatives Jimi Amir and Asma Hashimi, highlighted opportunities for networking, resource sharing, and collaborative initiatives among journalism educators in the region.

The meeting concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, followed by a short cultural programme organized and performed by members of the JACS Cultural Club. The Chattogram meeting was part of CJEN’s continuing efforts to expand its regional network and create stronger platforms for collaboration, research, and professional development among journalism and communication educators across Bangladesh.
