CJEN Bangladesh Finalizes Strategic Development Plan (2025–2030)

  • Meeting

The Communication and Journalism Educators’ Network (CJEN) Bangladesh has officially finalized on April 30, 2025 its Strategic Development Plan for 2025–2030, marking a major milestone in the country’s efforts to build a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable network of communication and journalism educators.  The document may be accessed from here.

This comprehensive strategic framework—shaped over a seven-month period—reflects an inclusive and participatory development process involving ten virtual consultation meetings that began on October 18, 2024, and a culminating in-person workshop held on April 11, 2025.

Co-facilitated by CJEN Bangladesh Founder Jude William Genilo and Sussane Glaeser, Consultant for Deutsche Welle (DW) Akademie, the initiative received critical support from Priya Esselborn (DW Akademie Project Lead for Bangladesh), Jimi Amir (Project Coordinator), and Istiaq Nur Muhit (Project Associate).

The finalized Strategic Development Plan is structured into seven core sections:

  1. Media Situation in Bangladesh: SWOT Analysis
  2. The Role of CJEN Bangladesh in Addressing Media Challenges
  3. Vision, Mission, and Goal Statements
  4. Program Areas
  5. Operational Areas
  6. Governance Structure
  7. Implementation Plan and Timeline

The strategic framework positions CJEN as a central actor in addressing pressing challenges within Bangladesh’s rapidly evolving media landscape. Through the outlined programmatic and operational priorities, the plan emphasizes quality education, academic collaboration, capacity building, and support for ethical and inclusive journalism practices.

A total of 27 executive committee members, representing academic institutions from across the country, played an active role in the formulation of the plan. The contributors include:

  • Jude William Genilo (CJEN Bangladesh Founder)
  • Nadia Rahman (Bangladesh University of Professionals)
  • Rani Ramos (AIUB)
  • Farzana Tasnim (Khulna University)
  • Md. Belal Hossain (Comilla University)
  • Rezwan Ul Alam (NSU)
  • Mahady Hasan, Md. Aminuzzaman, Sarkar Barbaq Quarmal, Shazzad Hossain, Muhammad Abdul Kader, and Nazia Afrin (ULAB)
  • Yasir Silmy, Sarwar Kamal, Muhammad Naim Uddin (BGC Trust University)
  • Jewel Das, Prashanta Kumar (Port City University)
  • Samiya Asadi, Mosharraf Hossain, Tania Sultana (Stamford University)
  • Naziat Choudhury (Rajshahi University)
  • Jillur Rahman Paul (Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University)
  • Mehnaz Hoque (Jagannath University)
  • Jessica Tartila (IUB)
  • Shameem Reza, SM Imran Hossain (University of Dhaka)
  • Shariful Islam Imshiat (NSU)
  • Shariful Islam (Khulna University)

CJEN Bangladesh aims to implement the plan beginning in mid-2025, with a focus on strengthening institutional linkages, enhancing curriculum standards, promoting academic research, and facilitating continuous professional development for educators. As Bangladesh’s media ecosystem confronts the twin challenges of digital disruption and democratic transition, the CJEN Strategic Development Plan serves as a timely and forward-looking blueprint for educational reform and collaboration in the communications field.
