Call for Proposals: 10th Annual CJEN Bangladesh Conference to Be Hosted by AIUB

  • Conference

The American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) is proud to announce that it will host the 10th Annual Conference of the Communication and Journalism Educators’ Network (CJEN), Bangladesh, marking a significant milestone in the country’s academic discourse on media and communication. With a strong commitment to academic excellence, research innovation, and industry collaboration, AIUB positions itself as the ideal venue for this prestigious event.

Scheduled for October 24 and 25, 2025, the conference will convene under the timely and thought-provoking theme: “Media Disrupted: Bangladesh at a Crossroads.” As Bangladesh’s media ecosystem experiences rapid transformation due to digital disruption and the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), this year’s conference aims to critically examine the complex interplay of technological advancements, regulatory shifts, and changing audience behaviors that are reshaping journalism and communication.

The conference will serve as a dynamic platform for academics, media professionals, policymakers, and students to engage in deep dialogue on the challenges and opportunities facing the media industry. Key thematic discussions will include:

Challenges:

  • The disruptive impact of digital platforms and social media on traditional journalism.
  • Misinformation and its effect on public trust and democratic engagement.
  • Press freedom and journalistic integrity in a complex political and digital landscape.

Opportunities:

  • AI-driven journalism and innovations in automated news production.
  • Emerging strategies to ensure growth, resilience, and sustainability of media in Bangladesh.

To support a wide range of scholarly and professional interests, CJEN 2025 invites paper proposals under the following sub-themes:

  • Social Media, Misinformation, and Public Trust – Examining how digital platforms influence public discourse and strategies to counter disinformation.
  • Media Policy and Press Freedom in Bangladesh – Analyzing regulatory changes and their implications for freedom of expression and journalistic independence.
  • Employability Skills for Media Graduates – Exploring how academic institutions can better equip students with industry-relevant skills.
  • Economic Viability of the Media Industry – Investigating business models, monetization challenges, and financial sustainability of media organizations.
  • Social Media Entertainment – Understanding the rise of influencers, digital storytelling, and shifts in content consumption patterns.
  • Journalism Ethics in the Age of Viral Content – Addressing ethical challenges in the era of click-driven news and rapid information spread.
  • The Future of Newsrooms – AI and Automation in Journalism – Evaluating how AI is transforming newsroom operations and redefining the journalist’s role.

CJEN 2025 seeks proposals that are interdisciplinary, critical, and forward-looking. The organizing committee at AIUB welcomes academics, researchers, graduate students, and industry professionals to contribute papers, panels, and workshop ideas that resonate with the conference themes.  Please see the conference poster for details.
