DW Akademie is Germany’s leading organization for international media development. As an integral part of Germany’s international public broadcaster Deutsche Welle, DW Akademie supports the development of free and transparent media systems by strengthening journalistic quality and media competency.
DW Akademie has been working in Bangladesh since 2014 in various areas such as journalism departments at public and private universities, mainstream media outlets, community radios, developing young student journalists and women journalists, network-building among journalism educators through the Communication and Journalism Educators’ Network (CJEN), free online courses for all on media laws, ethics and literacy, and gender sensitivity at universities and media outlets.
DW Akademie’s projects in Bangladesh are funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
As part of its global crisis initiative, DW Akademie implemented a project on Constructive Journalism in Bangladesh from September 2021-March 2022. Among other activities of the project, 10 students and five teachers from five public universities – University of Dhaka, University of Chittagong, Rajshahi University, Comilla University, and Begum Rokeya University Rangpur — participated in a training workshop focusing on constructive journalism.
The participating students, under supervision from their mentor teachers and DW Akademie experts, produced eight research essays on various aspects of constructive journalism in Bangladesh.
You can access the research essays here.
